A Catch-up So Far.

Well, I'm Rachel and I'm on a gap year with The Salvation Army called Essential. I never really thought about doing a blog, but once I saw how useful they have been to some of the Essentials, I though I would give it a go. I've been keeping a sort of informal blog already, so i shall steal some and give you a wee catch-up so far :)

My first week of Essential was brill We spent the first few days doing some team building activities with my fellow Essentialees. We got rather wet with the kayaking and raft building, character building they chose to call it .
The team are all really nice and friendly. My weekend at Staines has been enjoyable so far, settled into my amazing wee house, met some really nice people, and even joined the worship band! Went for a picnic in the park with the Corps and got some sunburn. 26 degrees!! Yeah, i had to rub it in.
Travelling up to Sunbury Court tomorrow for our Essential training, apparently its essential :)

I had a busy week with all my training. Learned alot of new and exciting things about
the bible. Also learned how to sleep but pay attention :)
Went to the Theatre last night. Saw a rather scary play called The Woman in Black.
It was exciting though. Off for a day in London today. Going to the Army at Nunhead
first of course.

My first few weeks at placement have been brilliant. I attended my first
home league meeting, which was rather interesting compared to what ive
been told. I was the youngest member there by a good 40 years :) I had
band practice on tuesday night and was immediately drafted in for there
concert on the saturday night. I doubt they will ask me to any more
concerts as it never went too well, but it was all good for me :D
The
kids club was rather eventful. i married one of my housemates
apparently? i dont remember the wedding or the divorce, as later Tom and
Andrew ended up happily married. Quite a bizzarre place Staines is.
My
Birthday was a pretty normal day if im honest. I hid behind the mercy
seat being a puppeteer, made some Stone soupand then ate it :) A few of
the ladies took me out for a meal to the harvester and i finished off
myday falling asleep in the youth alpha course. Yeah, the joys of being
an adult.
on a different tangent altogether...I miss Greggs the
bakers. scotland style. I paid a fortune for a terrible sausage roll.
and that does not make me happy!

So this is a brief catch-up of my first month or so as an Essential and I shall
have another post to catch you up fully and continue to share my shenanigans.
